How to pack a club for shipping.

Three real-world paths, sorted by what you actually have at home right now. None of them require buying anything off the internet and waiting three days.

Pick your path

A. You already have a long box + cushioning → Drop at USPS, cheapest.
B. You have nothing → Walk into a UPS Store with the bare club.
C. You want a free box → Call your local pro shop.

Path A

You already have a long box.

Cheapest path. Print the prepaid USPS label we generate when you click Buy Label & Mark Shipped, tape it to the box, drop at any USPS location or your home mailbox.

What works as a box

A driver / wood / hybrid box from the original purchase (the cardboard sleeve the club shipped in originally — many people keep these in the garage).
A long, narrow cardboard box from a lamp, curtain rod, poster tube, or a previous golf-club shipment.
A bike-shop box, cut down to length and re-taped.

Driver / wood / hybrid clubs: need ~46″ length. Iron sets: ~39″. Wedge / putter: ~36″.

What to stuff with

Bubble wrap around the head (the most fragile part — wrap twice).
Crumpled newspaper, kraft paper, or grocery bags packed tight along the shaft so nothing can slide around when you shake the box.
Old towels or t-shirts as filler — free, plenty cushion.
A headcover on the club itself if you have one.

Heads up on USPS

USPS discontinued their Priority Mail Triangular Tube that used to be perfect for clubs. None of their current free boxes are long enough — you have to bring your own.
Driver boxes are oversized by USPS standards. Expect ~$15 Priority Mail Ground rate — already calculated into the label we generate.

Path B

You have nothing. Walk into a UPS Store.

Easiest path if you don’t want to chase down packing materials. Every UPS Store stocks long cardboard boxes specifically sized for golf clubs and offers a Pack & Ship service.

What to do

Print the prepaid label from your order page (we’ll show you the link once your buyer pays).
Walk into any UPS Store with the bare club and the printed label.
Tell the counter: “I have a prepaid USPS label and need a golf club box.”They’ll sell you the box (~$10), pack the club ($5-15 depending on the store), and tape your label on.
Hand them the package. They’ll hand it off to USPS that day.

FedEx Office is the same — they also stock golf club boxes and pack on-site.

Cost reality

All-in: $15-25 for box + packing service. The shipping itself is already paid by the label we generated.

Path C

Call your local pro shop. Often free.

Pro shops and big-box golf retailers (PGA Tour Superstore, Golf Galaxy, 2nd Swing) get new clubs in cardboard shipping boxes constantly — and most of those boxes go straight into the dumpster behind the store.

The ask

Call ahead, ask: “Hey, do you have any empty driver / iron shipping boxes you’d be willing to give away? I’m shipping a club to a buyer.”

Most shops will say yes. They’d rather you take it than pay to dispose of it.

Why this works

Manufacturer boxes are sized exactly for the club, often have built-in foam shoulders for the head, and are stronger than anything you’d buy retail. Best packing material on earth, and free.

Avoid these mistakes

Don’t use a too-short box. If the clubhead is pressed against the end of the box, any drop will transfer force straight into the face. Always leave ~3″ of cushion at both ends.
Don’t skimp on the head. Most damage in transit happens to driver crowns and iron faces. Wrap the head twice if you have any doubt.
Don’t use a soft mailer or padded envelope. Clubs need a rigid box. A bent shaft is a refund.
Don’t tape the label over a seam. If the box gets opened for inspection, the label may rip.

You have 96 hours

From the moment your buyer pays, the timer starts. Plenty of time for any of the three paths above — but don’t wait until hour 90.
